With Valentine's Day just around the corner —
quickly followed by Easter and Mother's Day — the
attention on sweets is heightened at this time of year.
With that in mind, we're taking a look at some of the
over-the-top goodies available in the Lehigh Valley.
Americans spent $13.9 billion on Valentine's
Day gifts in 2014, according to the research site
Statisticbrain.com. Of those buying gifts, 47.5 percent
bought candy of some kind for their sweetie.
In the Valley, fresh strawberries dipped in smooth,
decadent chocolate are a popular choice for loved ones.
Sia Bassil, who owns The Carmelcorn Shop in Easton
with her husband Tony, tells how she opened up her shop
at 6 a.m. because a shopper wanted to pick up an order
of chocolate-covered strawberries he ordered for his wife
for Valentine's Day. He couldn't pick it up during
