FALL CAN BE A NEW BEGINNING from their perspective.
By Beth W. Orenstein Like spring, fall can be a time of
change and new beginnings. If you’re
46 | INDULGE • AUGUST/SEPTEMBER 2016 looking to update your home with
design trends for fall, here’s what
should be on your list.
Note: Most of the trends are
not exclusively fall, so you won’t be
investing in design trends that are out
as quickly as fall becomes winter.
BACK TO NATURAL
“A big trend I’m finding is that
people are going back to natural things,”
says Nancy Carroll of Nancy Carroll
Interiors in Allentown. For fall, that
means filling those big decorative bowls
on your coffee table or bookcases with
pinecones, gourds and twigs from your
yard, she says.
Another trend in home décor is
having a good foundation — a good
basic sofa, chairs and carpet in the
living room for example. If you’ve gone
this way, changing out the accent
pieces for fall is simple, Carroll says.
You can swap out your summer throw
pillow covers for ones in hues that still
match but that say autumn. You can
even go so far as to find accent rugs
that say fall and scatter them where
they’d look great, she says.
Simplicity is also a huge design
trend, Carroll says. People are getting
rid of clutter in every room, she says.
So you want to be sure that you don’t
overdo any changes that you make for
fall or for any season, for that matter,
she notes.
IN THE KITCHEN
Doug MacGeorge, a National
Kitchen and Bath Association Certified
Kitchen Designer, from Mac Kitchens in
Hanover Township, Lehigh County, says
that when it comes to kitchens, “people
are going for longevity, for the long-term.
They don’t want stuff that’s going to go
in and out.”
That said, he says, it’s easy
to do and still accessorize for fall.
“Accessories are important in more
