MY Having a baby brings changes to a woman’s life in
MAKEOVERS so many ways.
CAN HELP Not only do you have an addition to your family,
WITH THOSE but pregnancy itself causes permanent changes to a woman’s body
DIFFICULT that can affect the breasts, abdomen, hips and thighs.
AREAS
After welcoming a baby into the world, it can take months
for the mother’s body to return to pre-pregnancy condition
and some women may never be able to tone their bodies
regardless of how much they exercise and diet.
The inability to get back to pre-baby condition eventually
can impact the self-esteem, self-image and ultimately the self-
confidence of the woman, says Dr. Samina Wahhab of Allentown.
REBORN
And that’s where a “mommy makeover” comes in.
“There are a variety of surgical and non-surgical procedures
that can be performed to help women regain their pre-
pregnancy body and along with it, their self confidence,” she says.
A mommy makeover can include a number of procedures,
both surgical and nonsurgical, including a tummy tuck,
liposuction, Ultherapy, CoolSculpting, breast reduction or
augmentation and more.
“During a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon,
patients have the opportunity to discuss specific concerns,
treatment options and expected outcomes,” Wahhab says.
“Each patient is unique and therefore must have a thorough
consultation to determine the best treatment plan.”
Women should let their bodies recover from having a baby
before considering a mommy makeover. The body can take
months to contract stretch marks, lose weight and shrink the
uterus. A woman should also be finished breast feeding before
considering a mommy makeover.
A good candidate for a mommy makeover is someone who is
within 10 percent of their ideal body weight and is in good health.
A potential patient also should be done having children before
considering a tummy tuck, which tightens the abdominal muscles.
Women who have lost a lot of weight and have sagging skin
may also be good candidates for a mommy makeover if the
patient is in otherwise good health. The makeover is another
tool to help them getting to looking and feeling their best.
“Women who have worked hard to achieve a healthy
weight but are left with excess skin and loose tissue
often feel as though the hard work they have done is not
reflected in their appearance. Correcting these issues can
help them to enjoy all the hard work they have done and
to look as good as they feel.”
