Florals. Florals. Florals. That’s what JT Norman, designer
and visual merchandiser for GailGray Home Furnishings and MAGELLANLV.COM
Design in Center Valley said you should think about for fall and 610.437.5650
the holidays. Come fall, he said, “you want to introduce warmer
colors into your home and with florals is the easiest way.” Investment products and services are offered through Wells Fargo
Advisors Financial Network, LLC (WFAFN), Member SIPC.
Look for floral patterns that feature deeper reds and oranges. Magellan Financial, Inc. is a separate entity from WFAFN.
You don’t have to redecorate to bring out florals. Seek out some
throw pillows and throw rugs with fall floral designs.
Remember, little things can make a big difference, Norman
said. To that end, he suggested changing tissue boxes so that
they are fall/holiday themed. Same with kitchen textiles, he said.
MAKE ARTWORK SEASONAL TOO
Another idea: Change the family photographs you have
on display throughout your home and make them seasonal as
well, Norman said. “In my home, I put up a fall landscape on
the wall,” Norman said. “I also swap out photos and use fall
scenes from my travels along Route 611 or to upstate New
York,” he said.
Try to introduce artwork throughout your home or tablescape,
Fraccaro said. Place fall/holiday artwork on easels or wreath
stands. “You can pop them anywhere and not have to commit
to wall space or making holes in your drywall,” she said. You
can place them in your entryway, a powder room, or wherever
you have a little space to add some personality.
Fall is also a great time to do some extra cleaning, said
Paula Thompson, an assistant store manager at Lowe’s in
Whitehall Township. Everyone thinks spring cleaning, but “you
want to freshen up your home for fall, too,” she said. It’s a way
to get your home ready for your holiday guests. That may be a
“simple floor to ceiling scrub down.” Or it could be having the
carpets shampooed and the walls repainted, Thompson said.
If your walls don’t need repainting, but you want to
change the look and freshen up your home for fall and holiday
company, she said, consider repainting the trim or removing
the paint on the trim and staining it for a natural look.
Fall and winter months also mean less daylight. That
means indoor and outdoor lights are on longer. If you want to
make sure your home is bright but don’t want to waste energy,
be sure all the bulbs you have in indoor and outdoor light
fixtures are labeled Energy Star by the U.S. Department of
Environmental Protection. Decorating for the winter with LED
holiday lights is not only fun, but it also can save money and
energy, said the Department of Energy.
