Hawk Mountain Christmas Bird Count
Include education in your holiday preparation with
this bird count geared for children ages 8 to 16 and
their parents/guardians. The event, from 9:30 a.m. to
1 p.m., combines bird identification, science and fun.
Youth will be divided into small groups for binocular
basics and birding basics boot camps. Then, outfitted
with binoculars, a local winter bird list and field guides,
teams will head out on specific routes at Hawk Mountain
to search for and identify birds. Volunteers will help
youth to identify, record and count birds. During
lunch, the results will be tallied and entered into the
eBird database. Teams will report on their findings
and prizes will be awarded. Registration costs $5 for
nonmembers and is free for members. Adult guardians
