Concrete patio looking a little worse for the wear? While
homeowners with concrete patios were once limited with
what they could do to fix an old patio, consumers now
have more options. To give your old concrete patio new life,
Slattery suggests covering the patio in pavers, stamping
fresh concrete to look like stone or giving the patio a fresh
coat of patio paint.

LIGHT UP THE YARD

When it comes to lighting, Slattery says it’s trendy to
light up certain features of the house or yard you want to
display. For instance, placing a spotlight on a dramatic
boulder or tree. Lighting can also be used to create a
welcoming ambiance.

“You don’t want it to be overwhelming,” Slattery says,
“the backyard is a bit more subtle.”

For safety, he recommends adding pathway lights to
walkways, especially if you plan to entertain past dark. When
