LEHIGH VALLEY’S GUIDE TO
By Beth W. Orenstein
If you want to get the freshest locally grown food you can
possibly get, look no further than the farmers markets that
will open soon across the Valley.
These are organized markets that have everything from
locally made wines to soaps, honey and all kinds of food. Several
are year-round and indoor, but most are outside in the fresh air.

“Both markets are about creating a happy, healthy and
fun community gathering space where folks of all ages can
shop, dine and enjoy fresh, locally grown and prepared
foods,” says Megan McBride, market district director.
This promises to be a big year for the outdoor Easton
Farmers’ Market as it gears up for its 265th season,
McBride says. Some new events and programs are on tap,
including a Local Libations Tent, which will play host to a
rotating schedule of craft brew sales, sampling and release
events. A new law in Pennsylvania allows breweries to pay a
permitting fee to temporarily set up at farmers markets.
A Funk Fest, a celebration of all things funky and
fermented — kombucha, kimchi, pickles, cheese, mushrooms
and beer — is scheduled for May 20. A June Bee Jamboree
celebrating everything beekeeping from honey to a bumble
bee tea party and parade is planned for June 24.
