OVERSIZE KNITS
OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2014 • INDULGE | 29
Another one of the season’s big trends, knitwear —
oversize and often worn head to toe — ruled the runways
of The Row, Celine, Michael Kors and Stella McCartney.
Less expensive versions are popping up at stores like
Zara, which has done a good job of re-creating the flared
knit pants and long ribbed sweaters seen at Celine and
Marc Jacobs, as well as offering a versatile, ivory chunky
turtleneck sweater for under $80.
THE UNEXPECTED TRENDS
While warm and wooly clothes make perfect sense
for fall, several other trends are flying out of left field. For
instance, florals and acid bright hues peppered the
runways, bringing a fresh take on traditional cool-
weather clothing.
WINTER GARDEN
Floral prints are a standout for fall and
being done in an appropriately dark and
more romantic manner than the typically
bold and bright floral prints seen in spring
and summer.
Dries Van Noten’s collection was a
nod to an autumnal arrangement. Prints
were exaggerated and done in orange,
mustard and crimson tones.
Dolce & Gabbana added whimsical
floral applique to a delicate black lace
dress, giving a fairy tale feel to an
otherwise sheer and sexy look. And at
Louis Vuitton, flowers appeared in vivid
reds and blues on a white dress with a
feminine flutter sleeve.
