opting to have a dessert table with multiple options for their guests.
“The naked cake is a more contemporary take on a rustic theme,”
says Amy Cozze, owner of Cozze Cakes in Nazareth. “I love the look,
and I think it is a classic while still unique, and a little edgy. We’ve
adorned them with everything from roses to fresh figs. The dessert
table, however, is alive and well. It usually consists of a small wedding
cake the couple uses to cut for pictures, accompanied by a display of
cupcakes or other desserts on a variety of stands and platters.”
One dessert trend to keep an eye on is the “geode” cake, which
is where rock candy is utilized to give the impression of a geological
formation within the cake. Cozze also says that some couples are
opting to use cupcakes that mimic flowers as centerpieces on their
guest tables.
Weddings are (literally) a work of art
Cell phones and selfies may have permanently changed the way
that weddings are captured and remembered, but a new trend is
doing something that even social media can’t accomplish: making
married couples cry over a work of art.
Having a live event painter at your wedding isn’t just a
conversation generator; it also creates a lasting memory for future
generations, as the painting is able to be passed down through the
family. Brides and grooms are also able to decide what specific part
of their event they want captured.
“The biggest trend to feature is the first dance, as it symbolizes the
romance of the presentation of the newlyweds. Oftentimes, the setting
determines whether the ceremony or the reception will be featured,”
says Andy Greenlee, owner and artist at Celebration Paintings in
Orefield. “In the hours before the wedding, I arrive long before guests
do with an arsenal of images, swatches, and notes in hand that
have me prepared to construct a backdrop for the moments we’ve
discussed for me to capture. The most important thing I generally
work to focus on, as guided by clients, is the people.”
While some may assume that loud and busy celebrations create
too much distraction for an artist to focus, Greenlee is eager for guests
to observe and talk to her about her work.
“Part of what I do is celebrate and converse with guests,” she
says. “Sometimes people are shy to come and look at the painting for
fear of disturbing me. Entertaining is coupled with that masterpiece
final product in live wedding painting. I love people, and I love art.
Moreover, I love sharing those two passions with the couple.”
