Summer Hair
Christa Dittbrenner of New Attitude Salon and Day Spa
offered the following tips to keep your hair healthy and touchable
this summer:
n Pretreat hair with UV protection and a leave-in conditioner
before going out in the sun or swimming. You can even dilute
your favorite sunscreen in a small water bottle and spray directly
on your hair.
n Schedule your hair color appointments right after vacationing
instead of having it done before to avoid unwanted fading.
n Humidity can enhance natural waves and curls so instead of
fighting it — embrace it and give yourself a different look.
Summer skin
In addition to wearing sunscreen when outside, the American
Academy of Dermatology recommends:
n Seeking shade when appropriate, remembering that the sun’s
rays are strongest between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. If your shadow is
shorter than you are, seek shade.
n Wearing protective clothing, such as a long-sleeved shirt, pants,
a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses, when possible.
n Using extra caution near water, snow and sand as they reflect the
damaging rays of the sun, which can increase your chance of sunburn.
n Getting vitamin D safely through a healthy diet that may include
supplements. Don’t seek the sun.
